Drink driving laws having ‘positive’ impact on north west drivers

The drink driving laws introduced in 2018 have had a positive impact on driver behaviour in the north west.

That’s according to a new survey conducted by Behaviour and Attitudes on behalf of Drinkaware.

It found 50% people used alternative transport on a night out, 22% switched to non alcoholic beer so they could drive home that night and 36% cut down on drinking overall when they planned on driving the next morning.

Communication and Marketing Manager with Drinkaware, Miriam Taber, says people are taking the new laws seriously.

The study also found tat 64% of people want an official breathalyser to be issued for personal use.

Miriam Taber says that off the shelf breathalysers can vary wildly in their detection and are no guarantee if you come across a garda checkpoint.
