Sinn Fein’s Chris MacManus to take Matt Carthy’s seat in European Parliament



Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor Chris MacManus has confirmed that he is to take up the Midlands North West European Parliament seat held by Matt Carthy, who has been elected to the Dail.

Cllr MacManus made the announcement this morning at a meeting of Sligo County Council, which was adjourned as a mark of respect to former councillor and Cathaoirleach John Sherlock, who died recently.

The Sinn Fein representative pulled out of the general election race in Sligo-Leitrim in order for the party to maximise its chances of winning a seat in the north-west.
