Impressive Sligo beat Blackrock in All-Ireland League



Sligo senior rugby team re-invigorated their promotion push from Division 2B of the Engeria All-Ireland League on Saturday with an impressive 10-5 win against Blackrock in Dublin.

The ‘Rock’ had ended Sligo’s play-off hopes by a single point last season, so this win was all the sweeter for Paddy Pearson’s side.

Connacht scrum-half Stephen Kerins was released to play for him hometown club and he was very influential. His first-half try helped Sligo establish a 10-0 interval lead.

Conditions were difficult throughout the game but despite facing a strong wind in the second half, Sligo defended resolutely.

Blackrock did manage to score a try 10 mins from the end – but Sligo held on for a deserved win.

Next for Sligo is a home encounter against Greystones RFC. The match kicks off at Strandhill at 2.30 next Saturday.
