Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor Chris McManus has expressed his delight with the success of party colleague Martin Kenny in the 2020 General Election.
McManus, whom it was thought would contest the election as the second Sinn Fein candidate, admitted to the day being tinged with bitter-sweet feelings but added that the party made the correct decision to run one candidate and maximise its vote.
Speaking on Ocean FM, he described it as a brilliant day to be an Irish Republican and paid tribute to the Martin Kenny and the Sinn Fein party.
When pushed on whether he had mixed feelings on the outcome of the result he replied he was not driven by personal ambition and said he would take the same decision again in order to ensure that Sinn Fein returned a TD in the Sligo Leitrim constituency.
