Sligo Councillors call for increased support for early childhood education

Sligo county council is calling on the government to provide the same level of support for early childhood education and care as is given to primary and secondary education.

It’s also calling for adequate wages be paid to those who work in the childcare sector.

It follows motions at this week’s monthly meeting of the council from Independent Alliance Councillor Marie Casserly and Solidarity People Before Profit Councillor Gino O Boyle.

Protests demanding increased funding and adequate wages are to take place today outside the Dáil.

A protest will also take place at Young Explorers Childcare centre in Collooney.

Cllr Casserly says that with a growing economy and more people working, affordable childcare and adequate pay for those working in the sector is crucial.
