Anti-social behaviour leads to the closure of Collooney Railway waiting room

The closure of the waiting room at the Collooney Railway station has been described as “another reduction in passenger service” by a local Councillor.

The waiting room was closed at the end of January by Irish Rail as a result of vandalism.

It’s claimed a number of young adults used a powder fire extinguisher in the waiting room, broke the main component for the disabled access door into the building and it’s also believed they tried to set a fire in the toilet.

Gardaí are currently investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact your local Garda station.

Sligo/Drumcliffe Sinn Fein councillor Thomas Healy is calling for safety and security measures to be put in place so vandalism like this can never happen again
