More people in rural areas seeking help for cocaine use

There’s been a steady increase in the number of people seeking help for cocaine addiction in rural areas, including in the north west.

The figures come from the Health Research Board going back to 2013.

2018 had the biggest increase during this period, a 50% jump in people seeking help compared to the previous year.

Hannah Quinn-Mulligan, from the Irish Farmers Journal, says the problem used to be almost non existent in areas such as Donegal.
