Depleted Leitrim hammered by Roscommon

Leitrim’s competitive start to 2020 was a game they will want to forget quickly after holders Roscommon overwhelmed them in Sunday’s Connacht FBD semi-final in Carrick-on-Shannon on a final scoreline of 7-16 to 0-7.

Terry Hyland’s side were missing 11 regulars but this only partially explained the 30-point gulf between the two sides as Roscommon scored four first-half goals to effectively end the game as a contest, as the visitors led by 4-7 to 0-1.

Red cards for Seán Flanagan and Donal Wrynn saw Leitrim finish the game with 13 players.

This was Terry Hyland’s postmatch assessment afterwards:

Leitrim must now regroup for their opening Division 3 game in the national football league, away to Derry, on Saturday, January 25th at 5pm (live on Ocean FM Sport).
