Water monitoring plan needs to be fully implemented

The fact that roughly half of the country’s coastal waters, rivers and lakes have unacceptable levels of pollution has been described as disappointing but not surprising by a Local General election candidate.

A recent report from the Environmental Protection Agency shows only 53 percent are of satisfactory quality.

The report highlights our river waters as a particular concern, with the quality having dropped by 5.5 percent since the last assessment four years ago.

Bláithín Gallagher will contest the next general election for the Green Party in the Sligo, Leitrim South Donegal and North Roscommon constituency.

She says the quality of our waters are deteriorating and a monitoring plan to be fully implemented.
