Carthy: Hospital overcrowding an ‘alien concept in Europe’

Midlands-North-West MEP Matt Carthy says Irish people shouldn’t have to put up with hospital overcrowding, adding that such a situation is ‘an alien concept’ in Europe.

He was speaking as the country’s three main children’s hospitals have begun postponing procedures due to an increase in the number of patients presenting to emergency departments and the ever growing number of trolleys figures across the North West.

The Sinn Féin MEP says it’s a worrying development as we approach the peak winter period.

Speaking from Strasbourg, he says unless Fine Gael and Fianna Fail changes their ways, there will never be a service that is open and available to everyone.
