Call for better access to justice, courthouses, garda stations for people with disabilities

“It’s critical that all courthouses and Garda stations around the country should be made physically accessible to people with disabilities.”

That’s according to Donegal Independent Donegal TD Thomas Pringle, who spoke at the Oireachtas Committee on Justice and Equality about the ongoing failures to provide access to justice for people with disabilities.

Deputy Pringle urged the the Legal Aid Board to “better publicise their services, so that citizens and people with disabilities are aware of their rights in relation to legal aid.’

He says the issue is not only about rural disability and access to justice, but concerns access for all people, particularly because of the closure of  rural courthouses.
