McLoughlin says his intention is to retire but . . . might he run again?

Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin has not categorically ruled out running again as a general election candidate.

He had previously announced he would be retiring after the next election but with Fine Gael’s difficulty in getting a second candidate to run in the constituency, speculation mounted that Deputy McLoughlin might run again.

Meanwhile, Ocean FM News understands Fine Gael has been having discussions with others in the effort to find a candidate to join Senator Frank Feighan on the Sligo/Leitrim ticket.

An announcement is now expected in the coming weeks.

However, speaking on Today’s Francie Boylan Show, Deputy McLoughlin says he has been approached and asked to consider running again.

But he says his intention at present is to retire.
