Sligo Borough District calling for Business Incentive Scheme to provide grants for vacant premises

Sligo Borough District councillors are calling for a special Business Incentive Scheme to provide grants to encourage the use of vacant commercial premises in their area.

Under the proposal, the grants over a three-year period would help new businesses set up in the traditional retailing, commercial and social heart of Sligo.

It’s envisaged the grants would take the form of a decreasing rates reduction over the three years for businesses setting up in premises that have been vacant for twelve months or more.

Sinn Fein Councillor Chris MacManus put forward the proposal at this morning’s meeting of a councillors from the Sligo Borough District.

He says that if the scheme is agreed by the council, it could be rolled out across the county in other selected areas.
