Further support for idea of north Sligo/north Leitrim national park

There’s been another call for the designation of the North Sligo/North Leitrim area as a national park or recreation area.

The latest call comes from Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy.

At a meeting of Sligo County Council, he urged collaboration in progressing the project between agencies such as the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the local authorities, the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, local communities and landowners.

It follows a similar call recently at a meeting of Leitrim County Council from Fianna Fail Councillor Justin Warnock.

Cllr Gilroy has been telling Ocean FM News the reasoning behind the proposal.

He says it’s important that when people visit one area in Leitrim, that they are encouraged to visit another area in Sligo.
