New travel charge -another attack on rural Ireland

Those availing of Local Link services to attend HSE Day Services are facing a €4 daily charge.

Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor, Thomas Healy, is calling for a review and says the most vulnerable in society are once again being targeted.

Up until the 29th of October, the Local Link was free for these people to avail of, however, there will now be a daily charge potentially costing families up to €80 a month.

Sligo/Leitrim Local Link say that the HSE currently contribute around 90% of operating costs however, they now require all passengers to pay the daily fare, including those with a free travel pass.

Councillor Healy says it’s another attack on rural Ireland.
