Gardai in Sligo/Leitrim and Donegal warn of phone, letter scams



Gardai in Sligo/Leitrim and in Donegal are warning about scams involving fake phone calls and letters.

Sligo/Leitrim gardai have received a number of reports of people receiving phone calls on both residential lines and mobiles.

The latest scam takes the form of an automated message relating to what’s described as “unauthorised transactions on your account.”

The message requests people to engage by pressing a number or by visiting a website.

Gardai are appealing to members of the public that if they are in any doubt about such calls to discontinue them immediately and contact their bank through official numbers.

And anyone who believes they may already have been the subject of one of these calls should immediately contact their bank.

Meanwhile, gardai in Donegal are warning about scam letters.

In one case, they received a report of a person getting a letter in which money was promised if the person gave information in relation to their her next of kin and bank details .

Gardai are urging people to caution elderly neighbours and friends about such scams.
