GRA says garda numbers in NW still falls short of pre-recession levels

The number of gardaí deployed to Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal since 2015 is ‘nothing to celebrate.’

That’s according to the Garda Representative Association’s Brendan O’Connor, who says the figures fall short of pre-recession numbers.

By the end of next month, there will have been an additional 79 Gardaí in County Donegal and a further 31 in the Sligo/Leitrim Division.

48% of all new members will be sent to Dublin, with the rest being spread across the rest of the country.

Sligo/Leitrim is receiving the 3rd lowest number of personnel nationally behind only Mayo and Roscommon/Longford, with both divisions receiving 18 gardaí.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Mr. O’Connor says the numbers in the north west is very small.
