Gardai Warning Motorists to check vehicle requirements as Morning and Evening’s set to get darker

With dark evenings on the way and mornings set to get even darker, Gardaí are warning motorists in the north west to check their tyre depth and ensure they have both headlights working.

The warning comes after a checkpoint in Ballinacarrow, Sligo earlier in the week where a number of motorists were spoken to in relation to tyre depth being below the legal limit and others only having one working headlight.

Gardaí say with the clocks going back this weekend, the evenings and mornings will be darker and are asking all drivers to make sure they have working headlights so they can “see and be seen”

at the checkpoint, one person failed to stop for Gardaí resulting in them being pursued and intercepted by a patrol car.

While there was a collection of people with no valid tax, insurance or NCT on their vehicles; a combination penalty points and court appearances will follow.
