Gardai advising motorists to be cautious of deer as rutting season commences.

Gardai in Sligo are warning motorists about deer on the roads after a collision this week with one of the animals near Ballydrehid.

The occupants of the car involved were not injured.

The Gardai are urging motorists to drive with caution as it’s deer ‘rutting’ season between October and December.

They add that drivers should be extra careful at dawn and dusk.

The number of accidents involving deer is increasing as they are increasingly crossing roads seeking new territory.

Earlier this week, there were calls at a meeting of councillors from the Ballymote/Tubbercurry area for deer warning signs to be erected on the N4 near Drumfin and on the Ladies Brae in West Sligo.
