Plebiscite to be used for Enniscrone naming decision

It’s understood that major Progress has been made on the necessary legal work to hold plebiscites; one of which will be required to decide on how the place name of Enniscrone should be officially spelt.

Official road signs spelling the Sligo Town starting with an “I” is believed to be posing difficulties for tourists and visitors who are being confused the unfamiliar spelling.

Speaking earlier to Ocean FM, local senator and general election candidate Frank Feighan says the issue could now be resolved through the use of a plebiscite where local people will have their say on the preferred place name by way of an electoral poll to be carried out by Sligo County Council.
