Irish mackerel fishing quota recommended to increase by 19.7% for 2020

A major increase in the Irish quota for Mackerel catches could be worth up to 80 million Euro to Irish fishing industry and in particular fishermen in the north west.

The International Council for Exploration of the Sea have recommended 19.7% increase in Mackerel catches for 2020.

The Irish Quota for 2020 should, therefore, increase by approx 40% from 55,313 tons to approx 77,500 tons.

Donegal TD and Leas-Cheann Comhairle Pat the Cope Gallagher has welcomed the development which he claims will provide fishermen with some extra security, especially in light of recent difficulties they are dealing with in the likelihood of Brexit.
