FAI Cup heartbreak for Sligo Rovers



Sligo Rovers bowed out of the FAI Cup at the semi-final stage following Sunday’s 1-0 loss to holders Dundalk at the Showgrounds.

Michael Duffy’s late strike in the last minute of normal time gave Dundalk victory and moves them one step closer to a domestic treble of trophies.

Rovers battled gamely throughout despite losing Romeo Parkes to a kneed injury after only 10 minutes.

Ronan Coughlan appeared to have a genuine appeal for a penalty later in the half but those appeals were ignored by the referee.

But the league champions, with Chris Shields pulling the strings, always looked capable of creating something and just when it look like the tie might be heading for a replay, up popped Duffy on the edge of the penalty area to fire home the winner.
