Letterkenny is to be the location of the Headquarters for the new Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal Division.
It will form part of the new North Western Region which will have its HQ based in Co. Galway and the Regional Chief Superintendent in Co. Monaghan.
Notably, there was no mention of Co. Sligo and the proposed Caltragh site.
Recently, Gardaí moved back into the station along Pearse Road after a section was renovated.
Hopes were high that further progress would be made on the proposed building of a new Garda Regional Headquarters at a site in Caltragh in Sligo town.
Gardaí say that a number of factors were considered when deciding where the headquarters would be such as: ‘population, geography, projected growth, crime trends and workload across a range of work streams.’
