Donegal Island must be recognised for their culture and linguistic importance claims Donegal TD



The Donegal Island must be recognised for their culture and linguistic importance in order for them to sustain the communities that live there.

That’s according to Donegal TD and Sinn Fein Finance Spokesperson, Pearce Doherty who spoke ahead of a private members motion in the Dail earlier last week.

Doherty claims that “For far too long many off shore islands such as Arranmore, Tory, Gola, Inishfree and Inishboffin have been abandoned by successive governments.”

Alongside Deputy Martin Kenny, Cllr Doherty issued a bill back in 2017 to highlight the issue surrounding heritage license’s to the islands fisherman in order to facilitate the continuance of traditional fishing practises on the islands;
