More dumping sites have been cleaned up on Dough Mountain in Co. Leitrim

The Environmental Department of Leitrim Council have engaged in a major clean-up of two illegal dumping sites on Dough Mountain in North Leitrim.

The mountain, which is part of the Natural Heritage Area and is an important location to main bird species including Hen Harriers, Red Grouse and Sand Martins.

Much to the Council’s shock and disappointment individuals continued to illegally dump waste at one location less than an hour after the site was initially cleared by Council staff.

Local Councillor Sean McDermott says the latest incident shows how certain individuals are continuing to illegally dump rubbish despite several appeals requesting them to end the practice.
