Government need to declare ‘a national crisis’ around agriculture

Commenting in the Dáil during yesterday’s debate on the beef crisis, the Sligo Leitrim TD Eamon Scanlon explained how Irish farmers have been suffering too long in relation to price compared to other European countries.

The motion which was submitted prior to last weekend’s talks between MMI and the various farming organisations attracted support from all parties with the exception of the government.

Deputy Scanlon says the uncertainty surrounding Brexit coupled with the beef crisis has left many farmers in danger of closing the gates on the farms indefinitely and has urged to declare a national farming crisis
