Tony McLoughlin signals interest in running in the General Election



In a statement to Ocean Fm news, Fine Gael Deputy Tony McLoughlin says he is due to speak with the Taoiseach about his political future following today’s developments this weekend.

He says he is looking forward to speaking with Leo Varadakar and his my fellow Fine Gael Oireachtas colleagues and party officials in Cork for the Parliamentary Party ‘Think In’.

Deputy McLoughlin says he ultimately wants to get back to what he loves doing – which is representing with vigour, the people of the Sligo – Leitrim Constituency in Dáil Éireann in the new Dáil term ahead.

He says as of yet he has not spoken to anyone inside the Fine Gael organisation about putting himself forward as a candidate.

Deputy McLoughlin says he wishes Cllr Maguire well with her future in whatever path she decides to go down and says she has been a very strong representative of the Fine Gael Party in Sligo since first being elected in 2014.
