BCAB: Does Johnson really understand how Brexit will impact on border areas?



A Border Communities Against Brexit spokesman says he thinks Boris Johnson does not really understand the difficulties Brexit will pose for those in border areas.

John Sheridan was speaking to Ocean FM News this morning just as the British Prime Minister was expected to begin a meeting with the Taoiseach to discuss Brexit and its implications.

Mr Sheridan says Mr Johnson needs to spend time in Ireland to learn what is at stake.

The Border Communities Against Brexit group also says Brexit is putting peace, prosperity and jobs at risk.

Spokesman John Sheridan also points out that it must not be forgotten that the majority of people in Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU.

He was speaking to Ocean FM just as the British Prime Minister was meeting the Taoiseach in Dublin.

Mr Sheridan also emphasised the importance of protecting the Good Friday Agreement.

Meanwhile, rural areas around the country will see “recessionary conditions” in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to a new report.

EY’s Economic Eye report predicts that a no-deal Brexit would result in 60-thousand 300 fewer jobs across the island by 2022.

It also states that a crash out Brexit would be difficult for Ireland – but wouldn’t push us into recession.
