Leitrim Council to take charge of 36 housing estates from today

The long running saga over the ownership of 36 housing estates in Leitrim today may finally reach a conclusion with the local authority proposing to take responsibility for their upkeep.

The proposal will be debated at today’s monthly meeting of the County Council in Carrick-on-Shannon

The estates being considered as having the roads declared public roads represent approximately one-third of the estates qualifying to be taken in charge by the local Authority.

With the proposed changes Leitrim County Council will be providing householders in these estates assurances that the public services for their homes will be properly managed and maintained into the future and will provide a welcome relief for residents who will be able to rely on the local authority to deal with issues around roads, water and lighting.

Cathaoirleach of Leitrim Co Council, Cllr Enda McGloin has welcomed the move and says it will allow the Council to resolve a number of long running issues in various estates.
