Dramatic win earns Killybegs promotion to Division 1

A late point in added time from county Hugh McFadden (pictured) earned Killybegs a dramatic 0-9 to 0-8 win against Termon at the Banks on Saturday evening, and with it promotion to Division 1 football next season.

John Cunningham’s side were second in the table on 21 points, one point ahead of Aodh Ruadh and St Nauls’ going into Saturday evening’s final round of the Division 2 matches.

Termon led by 0-4 to 0-1 in the early stages of the game but the Fishermen had drawn level by half-time at 0-5 each.

The visitors edged two points in front as the game entered the final 10 minutes but back came Termon to draw level at 0-8 each.

Then came that last move of the match which was finished by a McFadden free to ensure Killybegs join Division 2 champions Ardara in the top flight next season.

St Naul’s did all they could with a one-point win against Naomh Columba in Pairc na nGael while Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon beat champions Ardara by 2-11 to 0-8.
