Planning permission granted for Ardara distillery

Donegal County Council has granted planning permission for a new distillery in Ardara.

Sliabh Liag Distillers, producers of An Dulámán Irish Maritime Gin and The Legendary Silkie Irish Whiskey, have been given the go-ahead to start work on its site at the Show Field in Ardara.

The move will bring whiskey distilling back to Donegal for the first time in 177 years.

Last year, there had been hopes that the new distillery, with at least 40 jobs, would be built in Carrick but it was decided to move to Ardara instead.

Construction of the new €6m whiskey distillery will start later this year, with distilling beginning in 2020.

The company’s current operations in Carrick, where it produces gin and Assaranca vodka, as well as bottling their whiskey, will move to the new building when it’s finished.
