On the beach with the children — then keep your eyes on them, not on your phone



A Donegal water safety advocate is urging parents and those with children on beaches and near water to put away distractions such as mobile phones.

Jack Britton, of Lifeguards Ireland – an education school in Donegal — says a big problem for lifeguards is that people don’t take advice or understand the flag system.

His advice comes as Irish Water Safety says lifeguards are being treated as “babysitters” while parents are distracted with their digital devices.

Some 300 lost children were found wandering near water last year.
