North Sligo’s Christopher O’Donnell retains national sprint title

North Sligo athletic club’s Christopher O’Donnell retained his Irish Life Health national senior 400 metres title on Sunday in Santry in dramatic fashion.

O’Donnell, a native of Grange, just pipped the fast-finishing Harry Purcell (Trim AC), who appeared to try and jump across the finish line in a desperate attempt to finish ahead of the Sligoman.

Another North Sligo AC runner, Kieran Elliott and Aaron Cadden from Sligo AC both reached the final of the men’s 100 metres, but finished outside the medals.

Donegal’s Mark English, as expected, retained his 800 metres title – his seventh national senior title –  while there was also a great run by Tír Chonaill AC’s Kelly McGrory in the 400 metres hurdles final. She won silver and set a new Donegal record in a time of 60.44 seconds.
