Works are due to start on the refurbishment of the Gate Lodge at Doorly Park in Sligo town next month.
It’s expected the building will add to the growing tourism potential of the area after a new pontoon jetty was opened in Doorly Park earlier this month.
Two years ago, grant aid of €30,000 was allocated by the Department of Arts and Heritage to assist Sligo County Council with the conservation works.
The Tourist Development Association were then approved to lease the building for tourism promotion purposes once works are completed.
Independent Cllr Declan Bree is welcoming indications from the council that the project is expected to be completed next year subject to additional funding.
