Ireland’s newest golf major winner – Shane Lowry – is the third former winner of the West of Ireland amateur championship at Co Sligo Golf Club to go on and win the Open Championship in the pro ranks. He won at Rosses Point back in 2008 – and follows in the footsteps of former ‘West’ winners Padraig Harrington and Rory McIroy. Co Sligo Golf Club captain Kevin Flanagan gives us a Sligo perspective on Lowry’s momentous success.
