Warnings issues over wild fires during hot weather

Weather-forecasters are warning of the possibility of wild-fires during the hot weather.

There was a large blaze near the Arigna mountains in north Roscommon last night.

Calls were made on the Taoiseach and Minister with Responsibility for Defence earlier this year to outline the procedures in place in the event of future natural disasters following a gorse fire in Donegal.

Those calls were made after  firefighters and locals fought a huge wildfire which scorched hundreds of acres of land in the west of the county.

There was also criticism of the Government at the time over the delay in granting approval for the Air Corp helicopter to be deployed to attend to the scene.

Cathal Nolan, from the Midland Weather Channel, says a spell of dry weather has increased the risk.
