Works on the upgrade of the pedestrian crossing at the Ursuline College secondary school in Sligo will be carried out over the summer months.
The crossing at Lord Edward Street, beside the train station, will is to be completed before the end of October.
Independent Councillor Marie Casserly says the works will be of huge benefit to people in the area.
