Work on O’Connell Street in Sligo will restart on June 4th

The major enhancement work on O’ Connell Street in Sligo, which recently stopped, is to restart on Tuesday, June 4th.

Despite the stoppage, the project is still expected to be completed on schedule.

The company ShareRidge Ltd started the long-awaited works on O Connell Street on Monday, April 29th last.

The county council is ShareRidge’s client on the project.

But the stoppage of the work, so soon after starting, led to questions from the public about what was happening.

Now, in response to a query from Ocean FM News, Sligo County Council says ‘several variables’ arose, as might be the case with any construction contract.

These so-called ‘variables’ concerned the intricate nature of the underground services requirements, and the necessity to complete paving works while the installation of new drainage and services progress.

The council says the decision was made to curtail and reschedule the construction works to take these issues into account.

Over the last two weeks, detailed discussions regarding the rephasing of the works have taken place, with the council now confirming that works will restart on Tuesday, June 4th.

Initial works will take place at the southern end of O Connell Street, in the vicinity of the EBS building and Lowe’s Jewellery Shop.

These works will involve installation of new services and chambers, followed by the laying of granite paving.

The council says the works have been rephased to facilitate the paving, as works on the drainage and new services contionues.

The council says ShareRidge is committed to the completion of the O Connell Street project and that ShareRidge has made significant effort to ensure that the required resources are in place to deliver it.

The council statement says it’s ShareRidge’s firm intention to deliver a quality product and, in turn, provide a vibrant metropolitan space.
