Planning permission sought for major housing development in Sligo



Planning permission has been sought from Sligo County Council for a major housing development beside a secondary school in Sligo town.

The site is located next to the Ursuline College on the Finisklin Rd.

The proposed development includes a new 3 storey 93 bed nursing home, 75 houses and 16 apartments.

The planning application has requested permission to build the development on a 4.5 hectare site in Finisklin and includes refurbishment works at the Ursuline Convent which is a protected structure.

There are proposals for the convent to be converted into 16 apartments consisting of four one-bedroom units, seven two-bedroom units and five three bedroom-units.

Works will also include the demolition of a single storey section of the building south of the main convent and the refurbishment of a single storey gate lodge which is also a protected structure.

Remodelling and landscaping of internal courtyards and car parking facilities are also being proposed as part of the submission.

The application has been submitted by Cathal O’Connor and David McMunn and a decision is due from Sligo County Council on July 4th.
