Cllr says he won’t be intimidated following Connaughton Rd clean up

A Sligo cllr says he welcomes moves by Sligo County Council to carry out a clean-up operation at a public car park despite receiving threats for calling for the local authority to do so.

Fianna Fail Cllr Tom MacSharry put forward a motion to the local authority on March 26th asking how the council was going to deal with an unauthorised scrap car dismantling and disposal operation at Connaughton Road car park in Sligo town.

The area has been home to the McGinley family for over 30 years.

On April 23rd last, Sligo County Council carried out the clean-up operation supported by Gardai.

Following the operation, part of the car park was closed to the Travellers vehicles by large concrete blocks and mesh panels.

In a statement to Ocean Fm news local election candidate Tom MacSharry says he stands by all statements he made in relation to the matter and that no amount of threats, abuse or intimidation to him or his family will deter him from acting in the best interest of the people of Sligo.
