Leitrim councillors, candidates frustrated over delay in taking estates in charge

Leitrim councillors and candidates have been expressing their frustration at the slow pace in taking over certain housing estates in the county.

Although the local authority will be taking a number of estates in charge, the order in which estates will be prioritised is not yet know, something that has frustrated candidates as they embark on their election campaign trails.

Leitrim Independent local election candidate Jamie Murphy says the length of time that many residents have been waiting, in some cases almost 10 years, is simply not acceptable.

He says people in places like Rockview Drive and Millhill Lawns in Manorhamilton, and Forest Grove, The Acres, Millbank Glen and Stonebridge in Dromahair have all expressed serious concerns to him about the lack of lack of public lighting, and footpath maintenance among other things.

Fianna Fáil Councillor and local election candidate Mary Bohan says she has been representing the residents of the “Acres” and “Forest Grove” estates in Dromahair.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Councillor Bohan appealed for the process to be sped up and for extra council staff to be assigned to the process.
