Euro candidate says gay ‘conversion therapy’ programmes are ‘repulsive and offensive’

A European election candidate for the Midlands North West Constituency is seeking a ban on gay conversion programmes.

The therapy claims to try to change an individual’s sexual orientation from homosexual or bisexual to heterosexual.

Labour’s Dominic Hannigan says recent media reports that these types of programmes are operating in Ireland are extremely worrying.

Mr. Hannigan was one of the first two openly gay TDs elected to Dáil Éireann.

He says it is repulsive and offensive to hear that organisations are active in Ireland that hold such beliefs.
