Donegal and Sligo ladies secure league semi-final places

Donegal women’s gaelic footballers will face Galway in the Lild national football league division 1 semi-finals in two weeks time.

Maxi Curran’s side were beaten by Galway on Sunday in the final regulation Division 1 game in Corofin on a final scoreline of 2-13 points which saw the Tribeswomen secure top spot ahead of the semi-finals. The semi-final pairins are 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd, which means Donegal and Galway will face each other again in a fortnight’s time at a neutral venue. Defending league champions Dublin will play Cork in the other semi-final.

In Division 3, Sligo beat Kildare in Tubbercurry by 3-12 to 1-12 on Sunday to book their semi-final place. They will play Roscommon in the last four in two weeks time. It’s Meath against Longford in the other semi. Both semis will be played at a neutral venue.

Speaking afterwards to the LGFA, Sligo captain Jacqui Mulligan the win to “the whole Gormley family” in the wake of the death of well-known local Councillor Margaret Gormley last Friday, who had been a strong advocate for Sligo ladies GAA over the years. Her niece Noelle Gormley played in goals for Sligo on Sunday.
