Caolan Rafferty wins West of Ireland

26-year-old Caolan Rafferty from Dundalk golf club won the 2019 Radisson Blu Sligo West of Ireland Open Championship at sunny Rosses Point on Sunday.

A final round of 74 saw him finish on eight-under-par for the tournament, four strokes clear of his playing partners Conor Purcell (Portmarnock) and Arron Edwards-Hill (Chelmsford).

Listen to the Ocean FM Sport commentary team of Cathal Mullaney, Shane Flanagan and Robbie Fitzpatrick describe the closing moments of the 2019 West of Ireland:

Rafferty was a South of Ireland winner last year and now adds ‘the West’ to his role of honour. He was the championship’s most consistent golfer over the four days of strokeplay – with his third round of 67 setting the platform for his eventual success.

Best of the local golfers was Rosses Point’s Seán Flanagan who had a bogey-free closing round to finish in tied 11th place on five-over-par.
