Whale washed up on Sligo beach damaged overnight



It’s understood a whale washed up on a beach in north Sligo has been damaged overnight.

The jaw of 12 metre long female sperm whale found yesterday on Streedagh Beach was removed late last night.

It’s believed locals in the area witnessed lights on the beach during the night.

There have been three whales washed up along the west coast in the past 10 days with one sited in Donegal and another in Connemara in Galway.

Meanwhile an Irish conservation group is in Co. Sligo this afternoon examining the whale.

The adult female sperm whale was found dead on Streedagh Strand yesterday.
