Construction is due to begin on a new diabetes unit at Sligo University Hospital this year.
It’s understood that tender documents for the new day unit have been finalised and are ready to be issued to contractors.
Construction is expected to be completed next year.
The issue was raised in the Dail by Sligo Leitrim Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny who says the current unit is cramped and unsuitable.
