Taoiseach criticised over ‘ignorance’ about broadband in rural areas

An Independent TD is accusing the Taoiseach of ‘stark ignorance’ when it comes to the rollout of fibre broadband in rural areas.

It’s after Leo Varadkar said in an RTE interview that ‘fibre is underground’ and that ‘you don’t need poles’ to deliver fibre broadband.

Michael Fitzmaurice says that fibre may be laid underground in Dublin and other cities but in rural Ireland, eir poles are the only way to provide full broadband.
