Leitrim councillor says American flights to Knock would be huge boost for NW region

The ability of Ireland West International Airport in Knock to attract transAtlantic flights from America will be a key factor in determining whether or not the north west region can maximise its full tourism potential.

That’s according to Leitrim Independent Councillor and local election candidate Felim Gurn.

The Manorhamilton-based businessman tabled a motion at this week’s Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting of Leitrim County Council calling on the local authority to encourage the airport authorities to attract more tourism numbers from the American east coast to the west and north west of Ireland.

Mr Gurn was also critical of the Minister of Tourism Shane Ross who had incorrectly informed him when he lobbied him on the matter that the runway at Knock was not long enough to accommodate transAtlantic flights.
