Sinn Fein has selected sitting Sligo county councillor Chris MacManus to run in the six-seat Sligo/Strandhill area in next May’s local elections.
He was co-opted onto the county council following the retirement of his father, Sean, from local politics in February 2017.
He had previously been a borough councillor and narrowly missed winning a seat in the last Dail elections.
In a statement this morning confirming his selection, Cllr MacManus listed protection against the over-development of Strandhill as as one of his priorities.
