Format changes for 2019 Sligo senior club football championship

The format for the 2019 Belfry senior club football championship in Sligo is changing.

Monday night’s meeting of the Sligo GAA county board approved a proposal to divide the 10 senior clubs into two groups of five for the 2019 championship (unlike the three-group format of recent years). The top four teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, with the bottom-placed team in each group contesting the relegation final. The loser would then drop to intermediate in 2020.

The 2019 senior club championship is provisionally scheduled to start on July 27th this year, with the county final date fixed for Sunday, October 20th, 2019.

The Kennedy’s Intermediate football championship will follow a simliar format to the revamped senior championship.

There will changes to the leagues this season too. Two teams will be relegated from Division 1 this year, with three teams making the drop from Division 2 to Division 3.
